Engineering research
Research on photovoltaic and electric-vehicle impacts on low-voltage distribution networks. Six peer-reviewed papers through IEEE, IET and MDPI Energies. The habit it left: model the system before you change it.
Supplier Quality Engineer
Statistical quality work on a regulated medical-device production line, where a wrong number has a physical consequence. This is where I learned to separate measurements that change decisions from measurements that only fill reports.

The practice grew from one engineer to twelve, with eight promotions and retention above 80%. Three habits did most of the work.
Name the number before the backlog
No workstream starts without a business owner and a metric they already report on. If we can't name the number, we don't start the work.
Promote for scope, not tenure
People move up when they've already been doing the bigger job. That's how the team earned eight promotions, and it's a big part of why people stay.
Leaders who still read the code
I review architecture and pull requests on the work that matters. I don't do it to micromanage. I do it because that's where expensive mistakes are cheapest to catch.
